Quick Reference Guide

Emface for TMJ and Jaw Tension

Clicking, morning jaw ache, headaches that start at the temples, ear fullness with no infection. The jaw is a joint run by a team of muscles, and when some overwork the joint pays for it.

What it can feel like

Clicking or popping. Waking with a sore jaw. Headaches that begin at the temples. A full feeling in the ear with no ear infection behind it. Trouble opening wide.

When some jaw muscles overwork through clenching and grinding while others under-support the face, the joint absorbs the difference. A night guard protects your teeth, which matters, but it does not rebalance muscle. Medication and occasional Botox quiet a muscle for a while. Lasting comfort usually means changing how the muscles share the load.

What you can try yourself

  • Catch yourself clenching during the day. Rest the tongue on the palate with teeth slightly apart.
  • Skip gum and very chewy food during a flare.
  • Use a warm compress over the masseter before bed.
  • Protect your sleep. Fatigue raises clenching.
  • Do not force the jaw open or stretch aggressively without guidance.
  • Know the myth. A thicker night guard will not fix a muscle imbalance on its own.

What standard medical care looks like

  • A dental or oral-medicine evaluation of the joint, bite and teeth.
  • A night guard or splint to protect enamel.
  • Physical therapy for the jaw, neck and posture.
  • Short-term medication or trigger-point care when indicated.
  • Botox to an overactive masseter as a temporary option.

Where it stalls: passive appliances and injections often leave the weak side weak.

Where Ivy Collaborative Healthcare fits

Emface uses HIFES muscle stimulation with synchronized radiofrequency through applicators placed on the face. It is used to tone the elevator muscles and may ease the tension carried by an overworked jaw.

  • Sessions are 20 minutes and needle-free. A typical course is four visits over two to four weeks with no downtime.
  • The functional goal is more balanced muscle effort around the joint.
  • Lift and skin quality come from the same platform.
  • Physician-directed plans with Dr. Jocelyn Bayliss, MD.

This complements dental care, a night guard and physical therapy. It does not replace any of them, and we want dental red flags cleared first.

When to see a clinician first

  • The jaw locking open or closed
  • A sudden change in how your bite fits together
  • Swelling or fever

Those need a dental or oral-surgery evaluation before any cosmetic or muscle-focused treatment.
