Quick Reference Guide

Exomind TMS Therapy

When depression has not lifted enough on medication or therapy, or the side effects make those hard to stay on, TMS is a drug-free option that works from outside the head.

What it can feel like

You have done the work. Medication trials, therapy, maybe both for years, and the floor is still there. Or the medication helps and the side effects cost more than the relief is worth.

Exomind delivers focused magnetic pulses, usually over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, to stimulate mood circuits directly. You stay awake. There is no anesthesia and you drive yourself home.

What you can try yourself

  • Keep sleep, daylight, movement and one social contact in place through the series.
  • Take your medications as agreed unless your prescriber changes them.
  • Track mood and function twice a week so change is visible rather than remembered.
  • Arrange a ride only if you feel off after the first session. Most people drive themselves.
  • Know the myth. TMS is not ECT. It is not shock therapy and it does not cause memory loss.
  • Call or text 988 or go to an emergency room in a crisis. TMS is not emergency care.

What standard medical care looks like

  • A full psychiatric evaluation and medication review before anything else.
  • Evidence-based psychotherapy such as CBT or ACT, alongside or after a series.
  • Medication optimization where it is still useful.
  • ECT remains an option for selected severe or urgent cases.

Where it stalls: not everyone responds, and course length is individualized rather than fixed.

Where Ivy Collaborative Healthcare fits

Exomind TMS is FDA-cleared for major depressive disorder and delivered here in a physician-directed Augusta clinic.

  • Sessions typically run under 30 minutes. The current protocol is often six treatments over one to three weeks, with no downtime.
  • You can continue most medications during treatment.
  • Insurance often covers TMS for treatment-resistant depression, and benefits are verified in advance.
  • Other mood-related uses are considered only after evaluation.
  • Dr. Jocelyn Bayliss, MD, dual board-certified psychiatrist.

It sits alongside medication and therapy rather than replacing either.

When to see a clinician first

  • Thoughts of suicide or self-harm, which need urgent care, not a scheduled series
  • A seizure history
  • Metallic implants near the head, or certain implanted electronic devices

If you are in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or go to the nearest emergency room.
